Description
While the lively town centre attracts thousands of visitors each summer, many of Sopot’s most beautiful places remain peaceful, green and full of charm. I offer a relaxing three-hour walk away from the busiest tourist routes.
We’ll meet at Sopot railway station before setting off through quiet streets lined with elegant Art Nouveau townhouses, historic villas and magnificent old trees. Along the way, you’ll discover the fascinating story of Sopot – from a small medieval fishing village owned by the Cistercian monks of nearby Oliwa, through its transformation into a fashionable seaside retreat, to the elegant spa resort known as the “Riviera of the North.”
Our route leads through hidden gardens and leafy avenues to Sopot’s oldest surviving building – an 18th-century manor house surrounded by a beautiful garden and now home to art exhibitions and concerts. Crossing a picturesque footbridge above a wooded ravine, we continue along one of the town’s most beautiful streets, lined with impressive villas and mature gardens, before reaching a magnificent 19th-century residence set within an extensive park. Some may explore its interiors (admission: 12 PLN per person) or simply enjoy the peaceful surroundings.
From there, we descend towards the Baltic Sea through tranquil streets filled with greenery. Reaching the waterfront, we stroll through one of Sopot’s most beautiful parks where colourful flower beds, contemporary sculptures and majestic trees create a wonderful atmosphere. Passing the famous Grand Hotel, there will be time to relax on the beach or in the park with a drink or light snack. Anyone interested is also welcome to join a complimentary session of gentle Qi-gong – an ancient Chinese practice that promotes relaxation, balance and wellbeing.
After a short walk, we reach my favourite spot, bathed in greenery and colourful flowers, with a beautiful view of the sea. Those who wish can sit inside or on the terrace and order a drink or a snack. Others can sit on the beach. We'll then continue through the park, directly to Zakopane – another famous Polish resort, nestled in the Tatra Mountains, on the other side of Poland!!! That's a joke, of course, but not entirely… The highlanders of Zakopane have built a beautiful wooden inn right by the sea. We'll visit it and sit on the beach to soak up the magnificent view and the sough of the waves. This is the last stop on our walk. Here we pause to admire the views, listen to the waves and soak up Sopot’s unique atmosphere before returning through the park to the railway station.
